We held a grand celebration of Lawrence Joel's Birthday and Black History Month on Feb 22 2012. The Event featured Guest Speakers on the topic of Veterans and Military Families, Lawrence Joel Whitehouse Medal Of Honor Ceremony and the currently touring Medal of Honor Museum Exhibit
Have You ever seen the 'Medal Of Honor', with the naked-eye. For the first time, Lawrence Joel’s authentic Medal of Honor on a 13- Star-Blue Ribbon clapse, presented to him by President Lyndon Johnson, will be on exhibit for the public to view, along with other medals and rare documents. The namesake Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum began construction in 1986 in Winston-Salem. The 'Medal Of Honor' is our nation's highest military award for valor.
The museum exhibit is part of the Memorial Luncheon Event scheduled to commemorate Lawrence Joel’sbirthdate, born February 22nd and Black History Month.The Joel Luncheon is taking place this month, February 22, 2012 in Winston Salem.
Other museum pieces to be shown are his Purple Heart Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, Winston-Salem Journal Bronze-Coated Newspaper in Glass, orginal hand-written letters to Lawrence Joel by Winston-Salem school children, Joel's combat field uniform, rare documents signed by President Ronald Regan, President Richard Nixon, President Jimmy Carter, General Westmoreland, Members of Congress and more. The Medal Of Honor Museum Exhibit Tour will travel to other places in North Carolina and other States after being shown in Winston-Salem. Eventually, some of these items will be placed in the U.S. Military History section at the Smithsonian.
